Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), the renewable-energy arm of the Adani Group, has achieved a landmark milestone, becoming the first Indian company to cross 15,000 MW (15.54 GW) of operational renewable capacity . This achievement marks a major leap in the clean-energy landscape of India.
Key Figures:
- Installed Capacity: As of June 2025, AGEL has 15,539.9 MW of operational capacity.
- Recent Additions: The company added 3,309 MW in fiscal year 2024–25, the highest annual renewable capacity addition by a single Indian firm.
- Growth Pace: It took just 15 months to move from 10 GW to 15 GW, the fastest pace for any Indian energy company.
Capacity Breakdown:
Source | Capacity (MW) |
---|---|
Solar | 11,005.5 |
Wind | 1,977.8 |
Hybrid | 2,556.6 |
All capacity has been developed via greenfield projects.
Impact:
- Able to power approx. 7.9 million households.
- Helps avoid 28.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually-equivalent to removing 6.3 million cars from roads or absorbing carbon with 1.36 billion trees.
- Renewable energy generated is sufficient to light up thirteen Indian states and potentially power the entire North East.
Vision Ahead:
AGEL is currently developing the world’s largest renewable energy plant-a 30 GW hybrid wind–solar park at Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat, spanning ~538 sq km. About 5.36 GW is already operational there. Once complete, it will be the largest power plant on the planet, visible even from space.
The park will feature solar, wind, and a 14 GWh battery storage system, creating around 100,000 jobs and cutting 50 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Ambition 2030:
AGEL aims to scale up to 50 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, as iterated by CEO Ashish Khanna and reflecting the ambition of leadership. This aligns with India’s broader goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil-fuel power by 2030.
Recognition:
AGEL leads the power-utilities sector in the NSE’s ESG ratings, and earns top scores in the FTSE Russell ESG rankings for the alternative electricity subsector.
