Vietnam’s VinFast Ties Up with India’s BatX Energies to Build Battery Recycling Plant

In a move that signals a growing cross-border collaboration in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Vietnamese EV maker VinFast has partnered with Indian battery recycling startup BatX Energies to establish a battery recycling facility in Tamil Nadu, India. This partnership is aimed at building a closed-loop system for managing used lithium-ion batteries – a critical step for both sustainability and regulatory compliance in the EV industry.

VinFast’s First Major Step in India’s EV Ecosystem:

VinFast, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s largest conglomerate Vingroup, is already setting up a massive EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. This new collaboration with BatX Energies strengthens its commitment to not only building EVs in India but also managing the entire lifecycle of EV batteries. The upcoming recycling facility will help VinFast recycle used batteries from both their own vehicles and potentially other sources in the future.

Why Battery Recycling Is a Big Deal:

Battery recycling is one of the most crucial – yet often overlooked – parts of the EV value chain. Lithium-ion batteries contain precious and hazardous materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which are expensive to mine and pose environmental risks when improperly disposed of. BatX Energies specializes in hydrometallurgical recycling – a process that enables recovery of over 95% of valuable metals from used batteries. This makes the collaboration even more impactful, as it ensures both technological and environmental efficiency.
